Rising 2720 feet above sea level, Mount Scopus constitutes the northern section of the Jerusalem mountain ridge. From Judah Maccabee to the Crusaders, from Alexander the Great to the Caliphs of old, Jerusalem was first viewed from this ridge.

In 1925 it was determined that a great seat of learning would be erected on Mt. Scopus, and the Hebrew University opened its doors. In 1939 the Woman's Zionist Organization of America, Hadassah, raised funds to build the most modern hospital in the Middle East, caring for all the inhabitants of the area. Wars have come and gone, buildings have been demolished and have risen again. Today, Hadassah University Hospital and Hebrew University Mt. Scopus Campus are prime examples of the continuity of life in Israel.
